What is communication?
Communication takes place when one person transmits ideas or feelings to another person or group of people
What are the 3 elements of communication?
- Source
- Symbols used in composing and transmitting the message

What are some barriers to effective communication?
- Lack of common experience
- Overuse of abstractions
- Interference
- Confusion Between the Symbol and the Symbolized Object
What makes a question effective?
Question is adapted to the ability, experience, and stage of training of the student.
Effective questions center on only one idea.
A single question should be limited to who, what, when, where, why, or how and not a combination of these. Effective questioning must present a challenge to the student.
What is a benefit of a closed answer question?
They are relatively easy to standardise and the data gathered easily lend themselves to statistical analysis.
Open ended questions are designed to…
Encourage full, meaningful answers using the student’s own knowledge and perceptions while closed-ended questions encourage a short or single-word answer.
What is the lecture method?
The instructor delivers knowledge via lectures to students who are more or less silent participants. Lectures are best used when an instructor wishes to convey a general understanding of a subject that students lack
