Communication Systems Flashcards
List 3 protocols
Http, TCP, IP, HTTPS, SMS, MMS
Define handshaking
Is the process of negotiating and establishing rules of communication between two or more devices
Outline social and ethical issues related to communication systems.
Not everyone have access to the data. Direction of data will possibly get lost when being sent, also will all the information appear when received
What is a communication system?
A system that enables users to send and receive data and information.
What are Protocols?
Set of rules that govern the transfer of data between computers, defines how information is transmitted and how errors are detected
What is handshaking?
An agreement about which protocol to use to accomplish the exchange of information, it is a series of signals that flow between devices using during data transmission.
What are some methods of Handshaking?
- Hardware flow control uses a dedicated connection such as a wire RTS/CTS protocol
- Software flow control uses a special code sent with the data, used for long distance communications XON / XOFF, X = transmit
What is bandwidth?
Capacity of the channel or transmission medium
What is bits per second?
Maximum number of bits that can be transmitted in a second
Define Baud Rate?
Maximum number of data symbols or electrical signals that can be transmitted in one second
What are the types of Error Checking?
Parity Checking
Checksum
Cyclic Redundancy Check
Error Correction
What are some examples of Communication Systems?
• Teleconferencing allows a meeting to occur at the same time at different locations
• Messaging Systems
• Traditional
• Telephone
• Fax
• Recent
• Voicemail
• Electronic mail
• E-Commerce
• Buying and selling of goods and services over the internet
• Credit cards or EFTPOS are used to transfer funds
• E-banking allows customers to perform transactions and view financial records
over the internet.
What is a communications system?
A system that enables users to send and receive data and information as the purpose of the system
What are the components of the communication system framework
Source, transmitter, medium, receiver, destination and the message. These travel through levels of the system.
What are the three levels of the communications system framework
Application, Communication Control and Addressing, Transmission Level
