What is serial data transmission?
Data sent down one wire one after another
What is parallel data transmission?
Data sent on several wires simultaneously
What is crosstalk?
Interference caused when two or more wires are in close proximity
What is data skew?
When data sent at the same time arrives at a slightly different time to each other
What is synchronous transmission?
When data is sent along with a timing signal
What is asynchronous transmission?
When data is sent without a timing signal
What is a start bit?
A bit sent at the start of a message in order to provide timing data (0)
What is a stop bit?
A bit sent to mark the end of a message (1)
What is transmitted along with data in synchronous transmission?
Timing signal
What is transmitted along with data in asynchronous transmission?
Start bit
Stop bit
Parity bit
