Communication Flashcards
what aided the development of communication?
technology
what brought a revolution in technology?
the ability to interconvert audio signals and electrical signals using a microphone and reserve this at the opposite end using a loudspeaker
what is wavelength frequency?
number of waves per second
what is amplitude?
volume
what do oscillations of current in an electrical conductor emit?
electromagnetic waves that mirror the oscillations
- These waves may be detected by a conductor at some distance from the source, without there being any physical connection between the two
what is maxwell’s electromagnetic unifying theory?
- when electrons move, electromagnetic radiation (EMR) is emitted
- the higher the frequency of the movement, the higher the frequency of the EMR in the form of a TRANSVERSE wave
due to maxwell’s electromagnetic unifying theory what can electricity do?
TRANSMIT INFORMATION WITHOUT WIRES VIA EMF WAVES
what has broadcasting techniques done for us?
- allows a signal to be received at many stations
- brought nations into closer contact and helped to overcome cultural differences
what are the basic components of a speaker?
1) antennae
2) tune
3) diode
4) speaker
what does an antennae do?
picks up the EMF radio signal
what does a tuner do?
selects wanted radio frequencies and discard any unwanted radio frequencies
what does a diode do?
decodes the EMF code
what does a speaker do?
so you can detect the EMF signal (may need an amplifier too)
the application of the principle of electromagnetic induction to the transmission of audio signals is an example of what?
the imaginative way that scientists have adapted basic discoveries to make things possible that had previously been thought of as impossible
