Q

What considerations should be made before keying the HF radio on the ground?

A

Do not key the HF Radio while the aircraft is being fueled/defueled. Injury to personnel or fire may result.

Q

What is the priority of source selection for ACARS in the data mode?

A

• VHF is the most commonly used and least expensive mode. Transmission requires
line-of-sight and is not available beyond approximately 150-200 nm from the ground
station or over long expanses of ocean.
• SATCOM mode is automatically selected if VHF mode is not available (ETOPS, SATCOM installed).
• HF mode is automatically selected if VHF or SATCOM modes are not available (ETOPS,
SATCOM inop or not installed).
