Common Tactics: Atheism Flashcards

1
Q

One God further

Christians are atheists when it comes to “gods” such as Zeus, Thor, Ra, and the like. I just go “one god further” than you when I say that I don’t believe in the God of the Bible either.

A

The “one god further” argument is a Strawman:

Richard is mischaracterizing the Christian God, by trying to equate the God of the bible to mere pagan deities

The theistic God is nothing like Zeus or other gods that are more like superheroes, who have created beings and are limited in power.

The Christian God is uncreated and not limited in power. The Christian God is the ground of everything that exists

Also, Atheism is not simply a “lack of belief” in God, but a positive affirmation of a materialistic worldview.

Q

Atheism is merely a lack of belief

A

False

Atheists try to redefine atheism as a lack of belief, in an attempt to avoid the burden of proof.

Atheism don’t lack a belief in materialism, they believe that it is true. And seeing that they believe that materialism is reasonable, then they should be able to provide reasons for their belief.

If atheism is merely a lack of belief, then rocks, tables, chairs would also be atheists

also, a lack of belief in God, is not the same as saying that God doesn’t exist, it merely says that you are not psychologically convinced that God exists. Just because someone is not psychologically convincing does not make something false

Evil Christians:

Christians do evil things

A

Saying that God is evil because Christians emulate Christ imperfectly, is like saying Your favorite song is bad because a cover artists performed it poorly

or

Einstein is evil, because people used his theories to build the atomic bomb

Q

If Christianity were true, would you become a Christian?

A

Most atheists say no, because they are not on a truth quest, but a happiness quest. The problem is not intellectual, the problem is volitional. It is an issue of the heart.

The problem is that you can do a lot of fun and stupid things in the short term to make yourself happy, but in the long term it is a desaster.
