Why medicine?

A

Intro: Seeing the support given to those around me at times when it was most needed. Led me to research the career and built up understanding of it and how medicine is multidimensional.

Point 1: Hugely Rewarding
Justification: In not only a knowledge way but also in a physical rewards of diagnosing and working with people to try to better help them.

Point 2: Human Aspect
Justification: Caring for the most vulnerable (privilege), establishing a close relationship with patients. Playing a vital role in people lives.

Conclusion: This is why I want to study medicine.

A

Intro: Abigail, Isle of Bute, South African/Italian

Point 1: Reading
Justification: Like increase random facts bank through fiction and exploring new worlds through non fiction.
Point 2: Family
Justification: Spending time with my sisters, role models etc.
Point 3: Learning Afrikaans
Justification: Closer to families roots, want to have the knowledge of a 2nd language.

Why not nursing

A

Intro: Through wider reading, I have grown to understand the role of nurses in the multidisciplinary team, their role shares many aspects with that of doctors.
Point 1: Nurses work with other health and care professionals in the decision making process, but doctors usually take the lead and ultimate responsibility for the patient and their treatment.
