Metoprolol
- Used to treat high blood pressure
- often used to prevent angina
Often prescribed post MI and in treatment of HF
Furosemide
Diuretic
- often prescribed in HF to prevent fluid build up
- also prescribed to reduce fluid buildup in kidney and/or liver disease
Digoxin
Cardiac glycoside
- used to treat AF, atrial flutter, and CHF
Perindopril
- used to treat high blood pressure
- ACE inhibitor (helps prevent vasoconstriction via RAAS pathway)
- Brand names include aceon and prestalia
Thyroxine
Used to treat an under active thyroid (hypothyroidism)
Nexium
- relieves symptoms such as heartburn, difficult swallowing, and persistent cough
- helps heal acid damage to stomach and oesophagus
Apixaban
- anticoagulant
- generally prescribed to patients with previously coagulopathy or at high risk of stroke e.g HF, AF, previous cerebrovascular event, recent surgery
- brand name elequis
Paroxetine
- selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitor
- used to treat depression, OCD, and anxiety disorders
Sildenafil
PDE-5 inhibitor (can’t give gtn within 24 hours)
Vardenafil
PDE-5 inhibitor (can’t use GTN within 24 hours)
Avanafil
PDE-5 inhibitor (can’t use GTN within 24 hours)
Tadalafil
PDE-5 inhibitor (can’t use GTN within 48 hours)
Atorvastatin
- Inhibits cholesterol synthesis in liver and increases LDL uptake from blood
- indicated for use in this with high cholesterol levels to prevent further cardiac disease
Simvastatin
- Inhibits cholesterol synthesis in liver and increases LDL uptake from blood
- indicated for use in this with high cholesterol levels to prevent further cardiac disease
Lovastatin
- Inhibits cholesterol synthesis in liver and increases LDL uptake from blood
- indicated for use in this with high cholesterol levels to prevent further cardiac disease
Heparin
- anticoagulant
- prevents fibrin formation and therefor prevents formation of stable fibrin clots
- indicated for prevention and treatment of all types of venous thromboembolism in surgical and high risk pts
Warfarin
- anticoagulant
- Prevents formation of new clots and extension of established clots
- indicated for prophylaxis and treatment of DVT and pulmonary thromboembolism
- also used for prevention of thromboembolism in AF, MI’s and those with prosthetic heart valves
Irbesartan
- angiotensin II receptor antagonist (angiotensin II causes vasoconstriction, hence receptor antagonist blocks this mechanism)
- used in treatment of hypertension
Doxycycline
- tetracycline antibiotic
Quetiapine (Seroquel)
- used in treatment of mental/mood disorders
- short acting atypical antipsychotic
- used in treatment of schizophrenia, major depressive disorder, bipolar, mania
Olanzapine
- atypical antipsychotic
- used in management of schizophrenia and related psychosis
Amlodipine
- calcium channel blocker
- used in the treatment of hypertension
Amoxicillin
antibiotic
Panadine Forte
paracetamol and codeine mix
