Adhesive Capsulitis - aetiology and symptoms
Most common in 40-60y, women>men, diabetes
Progressive, severe restriction of AROM and PROM, lateral rotation most restricted
Ankylosing Spondylitis - aetiology and symptoms
M:F is 3:1, Mean age of onset 23
Chronic, inflammatory arthritis that mainly affects the spine but can also affect other joints, tendons and ligaments
Carpal tunnel - aetiology and symptoms
Median nerve compressed, Age 36-60, females>males
Pain, numbness parasthesias
Symptoms usually affect thumb, index finger, middle finger and radial half of ring finger
Describe the 2 types of FAI
Cam - extra bone at head-neck junction, more common in males
Pincer - over coverage of acetabulum of femoral head, more common in female
What are the signs and symptoms of FAI?
Reduced hip IR, particularly when hip flexed
Positive FADIR
Describe the aetiology of Radiculopathy
Usually a result of acute disc prolapse irritating nerve root
More common in males 20-50
L5-S1 most common, then L4-5
Describe the pathology of Spondylolisthesis
Anterior displacement of part or all of one vertebrae forwards on another, often associated with bilateral pars defect
Describe the pathology of Spondylolysis
Radiologically confirmed lesions in the posterior vertebral arch, pars interarticularis
Includes spectrum of BSI and defects and predominantly affects sporting adolescents
Describe the 3 types of shoulder instability
TUBS - traumatic uni-directional instability with Bankart lesion
AIOS - acquired instability due to over stress syndrome
AMBRI - atraumatic multidirectional instability with bilateral laxity
What are the signs and symptoms of RC tendinopathy?
Pain with overhead activity
AROM may reveal painful arc between 70 and 120 degrees
Describe the aetiology of Tennis Elbow and Golfers’ Elbow
ECRB most commonly affected
ED or ECU may be implicated if middle finger extension more provocative
40-60 yo
Golfers’ - PT most affected, not as common
