Common Knee conditions - chronic Flashcards
Patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS)
Rule out/consider patella tendinopathy
MOI: Develops from chronic overload (e.g., excessive running load), poor knee biomechanics, abnormal anatomical alignement
(runners with a combinat° of >: Hip: ADD, IR, Ext; Knee: valgus, IR; Foot pronation; Ankle DF)
S&S: Mild to moderate pain over the PFJ that can be diffuse or vague
CA: Anterior knee/PFJ P°: squatting, climb stairs, running, jogging and/or hopping
Patella palpation (P°)

Grind/Clarke’s test
Patella tendinopathy
“Jumper’s knee”
Difficult to distinguish from PFPS and may co-exist
RF/MOI: Common in repetitive jumping activities/sports; common among athletes and people who increase activity to quickly
S&S: Localised P° at patella tendon
