(i) before (e) except after c- or when sounded like a as in the words (neighbors & weigh)

(ei)=ceiling, conceit, conceive, receipt, reign
Exception of ei words
(ei)=either, foreign, protein, seize, weird
Exception of ie words
(ie)=ancient, conscience, efficient, species, society, sufficient
Rules of suffixes for words ending in (e) and the added suffix begins with a consonant
if a word ends in a silent (e) and the added suffix begins with a consonant, then keep the letter (e) when adding the suffix.

if a word ends in a silent (e) and the added suffix begins with a vowel, then drop the letter (e) when adding the suffix.
