Induction of P-450 enzymes
Drugs: Barbiturates, St.John’s wort, Phenytoin, Rifampin, Griseofulvin, Carbamazepine.
Inhibition of P-450 enzymes
Drugs: Quinidine, cimetidine, ketoconazole, INH (Isoniazid), grapefruit, erythromycin, sulfonamides.
Metabolism by P-450 enzymes
Drugs: -Sedatives: Barbiturates, benzodiazepines.
- Cardiac: Metoprolol, propranolol, nifedipine, warfarin, quinidine.
- Anticonvulsants: phenytoin, carbamazepine.
- Other: Theophylline, amide anesthetics.
Increased risk of digoxin toxicity
Drugs: quinidine, cimetidine, amiodarone, CCBs
Competition for albumin-binding sites
Drugs: Warfarin, ASA (acetylsalicylic acid, Aspirin), phenytoin.
Blood dyscrasias
Drugs: Ibuprofen, quinidine, methyldopa, chemotherapeutic agents.
Hemolysis in G6PD( glucose 6 phosphate dehydrogenase) deficient pts
Drugs: Sulfonamides, INH (Isoniazid), ASA, Ibuprofen, nitrofurantoin, primaquine, pyrimethamine, chloramphenicol, dapsone.
Gynecomastia
Drugs: Spironolactone, Digitalis, Cimetidine, chronic alcohol use, Ketoconazole.
Stevens-Johnson syndrome
Drugs: Lamotrigine, sulfonamides, penicillin.
Photosensitivity
Drugs: tetracycline, amiodarone, sulfonamides.
Drug-induced SLE
Drugs: Procainamide, hydralazine, INH, penicillamine, chlorpromazine, methyldopa, quinidine.
