Leukemia
WHAT: • Cancer beginning in bone marrow and affecting white blood cells. Too many abnormal CAUSES: • Partly genetic • Partly environment - Smoking, radiation, chemotherapy TREATMENTS: • Bone marrow transplant • Chemotherapy • Radiotherapy FACT: • Most common cancer in children
Alcohol-related liver disease
WHAT:
• Stage 1: Alcoholic fatty liver disease -> Excessive drinking can cause build up of fat. Few symptoms. Easily reversible by not drinking.
• Stage 2: Alcoholic hepatitis -> Inflammation of the liver. More noticeable. Usually reversible unless severe. Can cause death.
• Stage 3: Cirrhosis -> Significant scarring of the liver. High risk of death. Not reversible, but can be managed by not drinking alcohol.
CAUSES:
• Excess alcohol -> Chronic or binge-drinking
TREATMENTS:
• Abstaining from alcohol
• Liver transplant
