bed rest & topical antipruritics

how is conjunctivitis transmitted
direct/indirect contact w/discharge from eyes or upper respiratory
incubation period for pink eye
viral = 24 hrs-14 days
bacterial = 24-72 hrs
sx: pink eye
red eyes, itching/burning eyes, matted eyelashes
tx: pink eye
antibacterials, antibiotics, corticosteroids
aka: H-flue

how is H-flu transmitted
direct & indirect contact w/respiratory droplets
sx: H-flu
URI symptoms, fever, aches, sleepiness, no appetite, irritable, & fussy
tx: H-flu
antibiotics, increase fluids, antipyretics, rest, analgesics
aka: measles
rubeola
how is measles transmitted
direct contact from respiratory droplet
incubation period for measles
7-21 days
sx: measles
blotchy rash, fever, cough, runny nose, red watery eyes, malaise, Koplik’s spots
incubation period of H-flu
+3 days
define KOPLIK’S SPOTS
tiny white spots w/bluish-white centers inside mouth
tx: Measles
none; prevent & soothe w/post-exposure vaccine, immune serum globulin, analgesics, & antibiotics to help manage
how is viral meningitis transmitted
direct contact, fecal-oral, respiratory secretion
sx: viral meningitis in infants
fever, irritability, poor eating, hard to awaken, runny nose, diarrhea, vomiting
sx: viral meningitis in kids/adults
high fever, severe headache, stiff neck, sensitivity to bright light, sleepiness/trouble waking up, nausea/vomiting, lack of appetite, runny nose, diarrhea
tx: viral meningitis
none; recover 2 wks on own w/bed red, fluids, & analgesics
how is bacterial meningitis transmitted
direct contact & respiratory droplet
