The south did not like him. He was very unpopular.
Why was John Quincy Adams disliked in the south?
- He supported protective tariff.

Why did the tariff hurt the south?
The south were agrarian and traded with Europe a lot, so when the tax was set it made items more expensive for those in the south.
How did Europe react to the tariff?
They countered the tariff by setting their own tax on things from the US. This hurt the south.
