Medical Duration
Under 40; Over 40
1st : 12 months, 6 months (reverts to 3rd class afterwards)
2nd : 12 months (reverts to 3rd class afterwards)
3rd : 60 months, 24 months
Medical Priviledges
1) 1st class: PIC ATP, SIC ATP
2) 2nd class: SIC ATP, Priviledges of Commercial cert
3) 3rd class: PPL, recreational, sport, Flight instructor
What is a Flight review BFR?
- can be accomplished in any category aircraft that you are rated in
- Review of rules, procedures, and maneuvers to safely exercise the certificate
- Flight simulator can be used if it is authorized and represents the aircraft you are rated in
- DPE, CFII, or any authorized FAA Check airman
What is Private carriage?
carriage for hire that does NOT include holding out (advertising). Not more than 3 contracts, anymore than that implies the willingness to make contracts with anybody.
What is Holding Out?
Advertising your services, (facebook, flyers, etc.)
What is Common Carriage?
willing to transport anyone, advertising to everyone. (Airlines, corporate, etc) *must be conducted under 121 or 135*

What is a Special Flight Permit? (21.197)
issued to an aircraft that does not meet applicable Airworthiness requirements but is capable for safe flight.
a. allows a/c to fly somewhere where repairs, or maintenance can be performed
b. submit a form to the FAA
c. Call FSDO
d. Need a mechanic to backup your claim that aircraft is Airworthy
What are the 3 types of AD’s?
1) One time: requires a one-time modification
2) Recurring AD: requires a check or service to be performed periodically
3) N/A AD: “not applicable” AD but is still noted to show awareness of its existence

If someone who owns an airplane hires a pilot to fly them or their family around, is an Operating certificate required?
No, in this case, the flight is NOT for compensation and NO operating certificate is required
