Airspace Flashcards
What are the Special Use Airspaces? MCPRAWN
M - MOA (Military Operating Areas)
C - CFA (Controlled Firing Areas)
P - Prohibited (never allowed to fly here)
R - Restricted (need controlling agency authorization)
A - Alert Areas (high volume of pilot training)
W - Warning Areas (hazardous to non-participating a/c)
N - NSA (National Security Area; avoid these areas)
Explain the MCPRAWN airspaces
M - MOA (Military Operating Areas): No clearance required seperates military training activities from other traffic
C - CFA (Controlled Firing Areas): Noclearance required, spotter will cease fire
P - Prohibited (never allowed to fly here): white house, nuclear plants, do NOT FLY OVER
R - Restricted (need controlling agency authorization): hazardous to non participating a/c
A - Alert Areas (high volume of pilot training, No Clearance required) high density pilot training
W - Warning Areas (hazardous to non-participating a/c)
N - NSA (National Security Area; avoid these areas, may be prohibited at times), disseminated via NOTAMs
What are the ceilings and visibility for:
VFR
MVFR
IFR
VFR = 3,000' , 5 SM MVFR = 1,000' - 3,000' , 3-5 SM IFR = 500' - 1,000' , less than 1-3 SM LIFR = less than 500' , less than 1 SM
What are the Cloud clearance, Visibility, equipment, & requirements for:

When is an altitude decoding transponder (Mode C) required?
- Class A,B,C
- Above 10,000’ MSL
- Within 30 nm of Class B & within Mode C veil
What is ADS-B
Allows ATC and other a/c to know your position, speed, and altitude
