Control refers to the responsibility for co ordinating and directing response to an incident.
Command definition
Operates vertically within agency’s.
Command includes authority and accountability for effectively using available resources and for planning, organising, directing, coordinating and controlling police resources to achieve the task. Includes welfare, morale and discipline of staff.

Tactical command
Definition
Is the level which police resources are directly deployed within community, almost all policing occurs at tactical command level. Eg attending an incident or executing a search warrant
Tactical commander - What do they do?
- Command of:
- Inner cordon and all personal within.
- Immediate situation
- Manage interagency coordination
- Command within the intent
Operational command definition
Operational command exists when there are multiple tactical level activities or the situation is complex.
Operational commander Functions- what do they do?
- command of overall incident/s
- command over resource distribution to support tactical commanders.
- command response outside of tactical deployments (eg an AOS op)
- command response within the strategic commanders intent (if appointed)
- manage interagency response at an operational level
Strategic command definition
Is applied when scope/consequence/ community or political implications are significant and requires dedicated attention
