Coming of the White Men Flashcards
In the white men’s initial arrival, Achebe challenges the idea that across Africa, all traditions are the same, and often uncivilized in the eyes of the west. While he doesn’t necessarily emphasise which is better, he does allow the reader to widen their views on the differences.
Achebe also shows that the contact between contrasting cultures will always be difficult and possibly violent.
’ What is good in one place is bad in another’
‘The white men, they say, have no toes’
