What does a local fault light mean?
Local fault light indicates a traction equipment fault, such as traction overloads or other protective devices being tripped
What are some causes of traction faults?
Control res faults
Pneumatic faults
Traction overload tripping
1500v dc failures
Circuit breaker failures
How many KPA does the control reservoir hold?
490 KPA
What would happen if there is a rupture in the control reservoir or if the control reservoir out cock is isolated?
It will cause line breakers to remain open when the command for traction power is applied via the master controller.
A line switch fault light will occur and no amps will be supplied to that motor car.
Can the driver re instate the main isolation switch?
No
How many times will the overhead system try to reset itself after a loss of overhead power?
Twice
What happens to the doors if overhead power is lost?
All the saloon doors will release
After overhead power has been restored, at what intervals will the train controller depart trains?
1 train at a time at 1 min intervals.
Run in SERIES until the location that the train controller has advised
What are the DC power items a driver must check to see if DC is available?
Bell is operational
Low pressure flag is lowered
Ep brake is operational
What are the 240v AC power items to check after confirming all 110dc items are operational?
Illumination of non emergency saloon lights
Illumination of the van area cab light
Operation of headlights
Does the PA system remain operational after a loss of overheads?
Yes for up to 2 hours
What is the purpose of the L.S.M?
The LSM is designed to reduce the impact of 1500 v dc defects from overloading the substation when power is returned
What is the LSM time delay relay set at once the BVICS is closed?
4 minutes
What is the LSM speed threshold set at ?
8kmh
In the event that overhead power is lost, each LSM will activate once the local motor alternator drops below how many dc?
Once the local motor drops below 95v DC
For 2 continuous seconds

After 5 mins has expired the VAV will open causing any brake pipe air in the system to exhaust to atmosphere
What does a local fault light mean?
When the local fault light is illuminated it indicates an overload has tripped on a motor car
What does a LOCAL fault light and a THIS CAR light mean?
This means an overload has tripped on that motor car
How do you attempt to reset an overload?
Press the traction equipment reset button for 2 seconds.
If the fault light does not extinguish, the traction or rheostatic brake must be isolated
What does a steady AIR CON fault light indicate?
1 air conditioner has failed
What would an illuminated WHEELSLIP light while the train has stopped indicate?
This would indicate a fault in the wheel slip unit
What would an illuminated WHEELSLIP light indicate while the train is in motion?
This would indicate a difference in speed greater than 15kmh between axels on one motor car or trailer car during powering or braking
