Combining Forms Flashcards
inspiration.
The body’s respiratory
system provides oxygen from inhaled air to the blood, which circulates
it to all the cells and tissues of the body.
Expiration
The cells exchange the oxygen for carbon dioxide (waste
material) and blood circulates it back to the lungs to be disposed of
into the atmosphere.
pleura
The pleura are sac-like structures that consist of two layers –
the visceral (inner) and parietal (outer) layers. The pleura also
provide fluid to maintain suction to inflate the lungs and lubricate them
to enable them to move freely.
