Colon 1
Use a colon before a list only if it is introduced by an independent clause

Colon 2
Use a colon before a long formal statement or direct quote
EX
Abraham Lincoln said these famous words: “Fourscore and seven years ago…”
Colon 3
Use a colon between full sentences when the second explains or restates the first
EX He has many talents: He writes, acts, and draws

Use a Colon for time, between chapter and verse in the Bible, between title and subtitle, and after a business letter greeting

Use a semicolon between items in a series if the items contained,
Example: please see one of the high school teachers, such as Miss town, Spanish; miss piggy, special education; Mr. McNeil us, social studies; or Miss Mae, English.
