Cold Weather Flashcards
Where do you find cold temperature altitude corrections? What temperature generally requires correction?
FH 5.030 pg 1. 10-7 if not on 10-7 go to altitude correction table.
-25 Celsius
What does “RNVK” mean for an rnav approach?
The RNAV procedure is valid from chart temperature down to the aircraft’s minimum temperature of -54 degrees celsius.
If an RNAV approach without a (RNVK) version the following 3 rules apply:
Three rules:
Does not have “uncompensated BARO/vnav” or “cold temp alt correction req below -XX note” then the approach is valid to -25*C
Has EITHER of the above notes but not both then that approach is valid down to PUBLISHED temp
If approach had BOTH notes then approach is valid to the WARMER of the two published temps.
What is the definition of icing?
Icing conditions exist when OAT (on the ground) or TAT (in flight) is 10 degrees Celsius or below and:
- Visible moisture (clouds, fog with less than one statute mile visibility, rain, snow, sleet, ice crystals) is present, or
- Standing water, ice, or snow is present on the ramps, taxiways or runways.
