  • world thought 2 superpowers were going to go to war
  • U.S. asked CAN to ally –> CAD parliament hesitated but then agreed, hesitation put distrust between 2 nations
  • S.U. sent letter to JFK that they’ll stop if U.S. promised not to invade cuba –> U.S. agreed

  • put pressure on young premier who turned to ottawa for help
  • thousands of ppl gathered to show support for FLQ
  • trudeau invoked war measures act (suspended basic civil rights)
  • pierre laporte was found dead which made ppl not support FLQ as much
