- this large population needed homes – the suburbs (communities outside of cities) was created

- big exhibition in montreal, ppl from all over were visiting canada and seeing how great canada was

counter-culture movement
many young people joined the counterculture movement, rebelling against their parents’ values and traditions. Rock-and-roll music and folk music became forces for social and cultural change.

- The new mindset was anti-capitalist, anti-institutional, and promoted the idea that everything had to be questioned

cuban missile crisis
- leader of soviet union secretly put missiles in cuba to counter an emerging lead of U.S. in development of missiles
- kennedy televised and said he knew about the weapons and any attack that came from cuba he would consider as soviet’s fault
- imposed naval blockade of cuba to stop the building of missile sights
- world thought 2 superpowers were going to go to war
- U.S. asked CAN to ally –> CAD parliament hesitated but then agreed, hesitation put distrust between 2 nations
- S.U. sent letter to JFK that they’ll stop if U.S. promised not to invade cuba –> U.S. agreed
