explain the Marshall Plan (April 1948)
A
-huge pledge of money to aid countries that want to get rid of communism
-over $13 billion given to European countries, including Britain, France, and West Germany
-USA ensured all countries receiving aid were also major trading partners of the USA

explain the Berlin Blockade (24 June 1948)
A
-Stalin severed all road, rail, and canal links with West Berlin (attempt to stop the increasing revival of Germany under the USA in particular)
-The Allies responded with constant airlifts of supplies into West Berlin for over 11 months
-city was able to survive due to 2 million tons of supplies dropped by USA
-(May 1949: Stalin forced to lift the blockade)- West clearly showed they weren’t intimidated by Stalin
