The Cold War

A

a period of intense geopolitical tension and rivalry between the United States and the Soviet Union (USSR), along with their respective allies, from the end of World War II in 1945 until the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991. It is called the “Cold War” because it did not involve direct large-scale military combat between the two superpowers. Instead, it was characterized by indirect conflicts, competition for global influence, and an ongoing threat of nuclear warfare.
