16
Q

What is tertiary dentin?

A

Reparative dentin

17
Q

What may explain a black circle inside the tooth?

A

Used to be a pulp canal, tooth has worn slowly so it’s able to fill pulp canal with reparative dentin

18
Q

What can be confused for a mass or tumor at the top of the palette?

A

Incisive papilla (don’t cut it off!)

19
Q

What is important to ensure when putting animals under anesthesia?

A

Make sure they have a protected airway, proper monitoring, and warming protocol, PPE, ergonomics

20
Q

What is one of the first steps in doing a COHAT?

A

Rinse first with antiseptic solution and gently remove large chunks of calculus with extraction forceps.
Save teeth not break teeth! Excessive force can fracture teeth

21
Q

Why are full mouth radiographs important?

A

Radiographs revealed clinically important pathology in cats and dogs with normal oral examination and with patients who had abnormal findings

22
Q

What is important to remember about ultrasonic scalers?

A

Must have integrated water to cool
Keeping moving on the teeth, do not spend longer than 8-10 seconds per tooth

23
Q

What do you use a Universal curet (rounded blunted tip) for?

A

Used for sub gingival (under the gingiva)

24
Q

What is the curved sickle scaler for?

A

Meant for Supra gingival areas only (pointed tip)

25
Q

How can you actually grade periodontal disease?

A

Periodontal probing

26
Q

What is polish and lavage and what is it beneficial?

A

Removal of the calculus causes microscopic etching of the tooth surface which the micro etching attracts tartar and calculus. Polishing helps smooth the surface and decreases the retention of plaque and calculus

27
Q

What does Barrier sealant like Oravet do?

A

Hydrostatically charged, high viscosity polymer
Adheres to the enamel and seals the gingival sulcus. Must be followed with home application of low viscosity product every week.

28
Q

What is SANOS - barrier sealant product?

A

SANOS is a liquid polymer applied to the gingival margin to seal the gingival sulcus. This lasts for up to 6 months with no home product application.

29
Q

What are some examples of home care?

A

Brushing (best), diet, barrier sealant, and other
