Decline in late 70s and 80s, seen in episodic memory, divided attention, memory self-efficacy.
What challenges do the Old-old face (against their happiness)?
Poverty, death of loved ones, physical frailty.
Mourning
Obsession w/ loved one and events surrounding the death, impulse to search for one’s spouse, continuing bonds (feeling the spouse is physically there).
Who is more at risk during widowhood (mortality effect)?
Men; highly dependent on spouse, limited options for making a new life.

Government programs enables citizens to live without working.
What does the change 20th century life expectancy mean for retirement?
We are living another 20 yrs after retiring= that’s a full stage of life!
