Focused on how our mental processes affect our behaviour. Thinking, perception, memory, attention and language.
Encoding?
Converting info received from senses into something that can be represented mentally
Storage?
Holding info over a period of time in preparation for when it’s needed
Retrieval?
Recovering stored info

Describes memory in terms of info flowing through a system
Sensory memory
Perceived through 5 senses
Duration 1/4 to 1/2 seconds
Capacity is all sensory experience
Encoding is sense specific
LTM
Duration is unlimited
Capacity is unlimited
Encoding is mainly semantic
Tulving episodic memory
Part of LTM, stores info about events in our life.
It is context dependent and time stamped.
Tulving semantic memory
Part of LTM and stores info about the world like words and meanings.
Fragmented, independent and an encyclopaedia of facts.
