What are the 4 components of the cognitive interview?
Report Everything, Change Order, Reinstate Context & Change Perspective
What is Report Everything?
Witness asked to report every single detail of the event as it can lead to trigger another memory to improve recall
What is Change Order?
Witness asked to report the incident in different chronological orders from end to start (reverse order) as last memories may still be present in STM
What is Context Reinstatement?
Witness asked to mentally recreate the environment where the event occurred and reporting detail of the scene, feelings and thoughts leading up to the crime. Helps retrieve memory using cues
What is Change Perspective?
Witness asked to report incident from a different perspective such as by recalling events from an other viewpoint or other witnesses which helps retrieve better.
