What is Weirnicke’s aphasia
receptive or sensory aphasia - cannot understand, speaks fluently but incomprehensible. Cannot follow verbal commands or repeat phrases. Is not aware of problem (agnosognosia) and expects others to understand them.
Conduction aphasia
CAN understand language and execute verbal commands BUT like weirnicke - can’t repeat verbal phrases and speak fluently but incoherently
global aphasia
damage to most language areas - cannot do fluency, comprehension, repetition, naming
Anomic aphasia
plms recalling words, names…will resort to describing certain words
transcortical aphasia
can repeat words, phrases, sentences intact, but cannot spontaneously say them
