Negative self schemas
Package of ideas in the way we see the world developed through experience and are negative
Self schema - package of info we have about ourselves
3 types of schemas
Ineptness schema - make depressives expect to fail
Self blame schema - make depressives feel responsible for all misfortunes
Negative self evaluation schemas - constantly remind depressives of their worthlessness
Negative triad
Focus on how negative expectations (schemas) lead to depression
1 - negative views about the self (I am undesirable and boring)
2 - negative views about the world (people would prefer other peoples company, even my bf left me)
3 - negative views about the furture (I’m always going to be on my own)

Depressives mistakenly blame external events which cause irrational thoughts
Show effect of irrational beliefs or emotions

Activating event (teacher tells you she is unhappy with your work)
