cognitive approach and aggression Flashcards
Cognitive priming for aggression
An aggressive stimulus primes aggressive thoughts, causing a later related stimulus to trigger which leads you to behave aggressively.
Aggressive prime/stimulus
priming that usually occurs over time and isn’t a one-off event.
e.g. watching a violent film or playing a violent game.
Below Awareness
Priming occurs without us being aware of it, meaning we can be primed in one social situation and can behave aggressively in another.
Hostile attribution bias (HAB)
Bias towards perceiving aggression. a person with HAB may interpret other peoples behaviour as threatening even if its neutral. they may also pay special attention to other peoples behaviour, expecting it to be threatening.
