• Auto immune disease associated with chronic inflammation of the small intestine due to gluten
• Can cause malabsorption of vitamin D, folic acid, iron and calcium

gluten free diet
if vitamin supplements are needed (GP will decide with a blood test)
Osteoporosis and bone disease management
Prednisolone for initial management (for inflammation)

abdominal pain/cramps, constipation, mucus, flatulence, lethargy, bowel incontinence

stress/anxiety, alcohol, sugar/fatty food, caffeine

What is the treatment for IBS?

• Antispasmodics - hyoscine (buscopan), mebeverine, alverine, peppermint oil
• Constipation - increase fibre,, avoid lactulose as it can cause bloating & flatulence, give macrogol
• For moderate to severe IBS- linaclotide
• Diarrhoea - loperamide
• Stress management with antidepressants, CBT
