Codominance & multiple alleles Flashcards
1
Q
what is codominance?
A
-instead of one allele being dominant and the other recessice, both alleles are equally dominant which means that boh alleles of a gene are expressed in the phenotype
2
Q
what is an example of codominance?
A
- in snapdragions the allele for red coloured flowers and white coloured flowers are heterozygous so both dominant allelesare presenty the flower produced will be pink
- however if the flowers are homozygous either red or white colour will be produced as both alleles are not present
3
Q
how is codominance shown?
A
- subscript is used when there is more than one dominant allele
- for example a captial C (for colour) will be ued and R for red colour and W for white colour which would be written as C^w or C^R
4
Q
wha are multiple alleles ?
A
-a gene may have more than two alleles that is it has multiple alleles
5
Q
what is an example of multiple alleles?
A
-with the blood groups there are multiple alleles associated iwith the same antigen whicj results in the blood groups ABO which
