Social Contract
Principle A: Embodies responsibilities
- People live in society in accordance with an agreement that establishes moral and political rules of behaviour
- Fully accountable for behaviour = Self regulate, discipline, unprofessional, and violations
- Have integrity by being a whole person and not a dual nature
Professionalism, Two fundamental principles that practitioner embodies
- Specialised knowledge, skills and expertise that benefits members of society
- Commitment to use their expertise always and without exceptions for others
Fiduciary
A person who holds a legal or ethical relationship of trust with one or more parties
Always and without exception, place the interests of the patient above the practitioner

Autonomy - Capacity to make informed consent (Principle E)
Beneficence - Obligation of the physician to act for the benefit of the patient (Principle A)
Justice - Look at law, patient rights and if fair and balanced to see if its ethical or not (ABG)
Nonmaleficence - obligation not to harm the patient
Virtue of care
A moral excellence or qualities necessary for meeting the aims of caring
Principle B: Honesty, integrity only 2 virtues

Doctor has the power differential, therefore its their responsibility to maintain the differential and keep the relationship professional

Having the skills, knowledge, and character to practice your profession, whilst doing no harm

A career adversity syndrome
Higher risk of impairment and addiction, impaired judgement, substandard practice and patient harm
Result of excessive, and prolonged emotional, physical and mental stress

Four prerequisites for patient informed consent
PIRV
- Full and complete info must be provided in order for a decision
- Have the intellectual capacity to make an informed decision
- Others must respect the decision
- Decision must be voluntary and without coersion
Four elements of patient consent
TCVU
- Related to Rx: POM, and reassessments
- Full info, benefits, risks, alternatives
- Given voluntarily: no pressure or coersion
- Without misrepresentation or fraud, open, transparent and unbiased
Floor and ceiling
Floor: Chiropractor aiming to advocate the highest standard of care, and interests of patient first
Ceiling: GCC protects the public by articulating where the ‘line’ is. this leads to self regulation and is part of the social contract
