Cockpit Flashcards
EFIS Control Panel
On the Glareshield. Used to change range/mode of ND, change ND display settings, change pressure and display/hide FD/ILS indications
ECAM
Electronic Centralised Aircraft Monitoring. Middle two DU’s, vertically arranged. Show engine and systems information.
ISIS
Integrated Standby Instruments System. To the left of the ECAM, comprised of backup basic instrument with direct connections to sources. (Alt, ASI, AI, HSI)
Gear Lever/Indicators
To the right of the ECAM, gear indicator lights (red/green/off). Single lever movable up or down
Auto brake/Antiskid
Next to gear indicators - selectable lo/med/max autobrake. Antiskid switch is on/off
FCU
Flight Control Unit. Situated in the middle of the glare shield. Used to control aircraft whilst under autopilot. Also used to arm approach modes and select autopilot/autothrottle.
EFIS
Electronic Flight Instrument System. The pilots’ PFD/ND. Gives all relevant flight and navigation information, FMAs
Glareshield caution lights
Straight in line with pilot on the glareshield. Master Warning, Master Caution, Autoland, Sidestick Priority.
Throttle Quadrant
In the middle of the centre pedestal. Houses the throttles and the trim wheels
Throttles
One for each engine. 5 detents - TOGA, FLEX/MCT, CLB, IDLE, Max Reverse. A/THR disconnect on the sides
MCDU
Multipurpose Control Display Unit. Front edges of the centre pedestal. One for each pilot and one backup. Allows full flight programming of aircraft route, modes, speeds, performance etc. Keys are 1L/R-6L/R
ECAM Control Pannel
Located in front of the Throttle Quadrant. Allows switching of the ECAM lower display by pressing relevant buttons, also allows change of brightness.
RMPs
Radio Management Panels. Situated below the MCDUs, Each pilot has one, and theres one backup. Used to tune all radio communications and navigation as a backup to normal operation through the FMGC
Speedbrake lever
Located on Captain’s side, below the Wx radar controls. Pulled up/out to arm, pushed in/down to use in flight. Ret-1/2-full
Switching Panel
Located in front of the ECAM Control Panel. Allows switching of the pilots’ information to the 3rd backup sources.
Transponder
Located below the FO’s Audio Control Panel. Allows changing of transponder settings/code/mode.
Flap Lever
Located below the Transponder, opposite the Speedbrake. Each setting (0, 1, 2, 3, FULL) has a gate such that you need to pull the lever up and over.
Engine master/start panel
Located behind the throttle quadrant. Contains engine masters and the start/ignition switch.
Rudder Trim
Located in between the Flaps and Speedbrake. Electrical.
Wx Radar
Located above the speedbrakes on the centre pedestal. Allows change of Wx Radar Gain and Tilt.
Audio Control Panel
Located below each pilot’s RMP. Allows changing of what audio/radio nav aid sources are being listened to and talked on.
Parking Brake
Located behind the Rudder Trim. Pull and turn 1/4 clockwise to engage.
Landing Gear Gravity Extension
Located Behind the parking brake. Pulling out and turning clockwise 3x will deactivate gear hydraulics and extend gear using gravity.
Electrics System Controls
In the central forward zone of the overhead panel. Gives control over batteries, buses, generators and IDGs. Operates on push button ideology
Wipers
Located in the side forward zones of the overhead panel. Controls wiper in front of respective pilot.
GPWS Controls
Located on the captains side of the forward zone the overhead panel. Push Button ideology.
CBs
Located in the rear central section of the overhead panel. Not normally used in flight
Flight Control Switches
Located on either side of the forward overhead panel. Control the ELACs, SECs and FACs using Push Button ideology.
Fuel
Located in the forward centre section of the overhead panel. Gives control over tank transfer, feed and supply
Cabin Calls
Buttons located on the Captain’s side of the front overhead panel. Allow crew to call the relevant cabin crew stations when required.
ADIRS
Air Data Inertial Reference System. Controls located on the Captains side of the forward overhead panel. Supplies air data and inertial reference to the EFIS and other aircraft systems such as AP and flight control systems.
Fire Controls
Located towards the rear of the centre overhead panel. Gives fire buttons for each engine, the APU, and squib discharge.
Exterior Lighting
Located at the very front of the overhead panel. Allows control over Strobes, Beacons, Landing/Taxi Lights, Exterior lights.
Cargo Heat and Ventilation Controls
Located on the FO’s side of the overhead panel. Gives control over temperature, ventilation and isolation
APU Control
Located at the very front-centre of the overhead panel. Gives push button controls for APU master and start.
Hydraulics
Located below the Engine Fire controls. Gives control over Blue, Yellow and Green systems with push button controls.
3rd RMP/ACP
Located on the FO’s side of the overhead panel, providing a backup to the Captain/FO’s RMP/ACP
Internal Lights and Signs
Located at the very front of the overhead panel next to the APU controls. These allow pilots to control interior instrument lights and cabin seat belts/no smoking lighting
Anti Icing Controls
Behind the Exterior Lighting controls. Gives control over the engine and wing anti icing.
Cabin Pressurisation
Located next to the Anti Icing controls. Not usually used but would provide more manual control of the cabin pressurisation.
Air Conditioning Controls
Located at the front centre of the overhead panel. Gives crew the control of pack flow, bleed air and temperature control.
