Approach Segments Flashcards
What are the Approach segments?
Arrival, Initial, Intermediate, Final, Missed
Describe the Arrival Segment of the approach
The arrival segment positions the aircraft from en-route (e.g. an airway) to the fix beginning the initial approach segment
Describe the Initial Segment of the approach
The initial approach segment positions the aircraft from the initial approach fix to the intermediate approach fix
Describe the Intermediate Segment of the approach
The intermediate approach segment positions the aircraft from the end of the initial approach segment to the FAF/FAP. Aircraft speed and configuration are adjusted to prepare for final approach.
Describe the Final Segment of the approach
The final approach segment positions the aircraft from the FAF/FAP to the MAPt. Here, alignment and descent for landing are made.
Describe the Missed Approach Segment
The Missed Approach segment positions the aircraft from the MAPt to the end of the published missed approach
