Cochlea Flashcards
What is a vestibule
It is the large chamber in the inner ear
What is Perilymph
This is the fluid that fills the osseous labyrinth
What is Endolymph
the fluid that fills the membranous labyrinth
What is the Cochlea Aqueduct and what are the implications of this aqueduct?
There isn’t much if any movement of this fluid in the aqueduct. The perilymph that fills this aqueduct is in direct connection with the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). If there is bacteria in the perilymph or the CSF then it could transfer between the two.
What is the Endolymphatic Sac?
This duct heads toward the brain but doesn’t quite connect and is a membranous bag that sits on the meninges. It isn’t in communication with anything.
What is the cochlea duct?
It is the membrane that sits inside the cochlea, also know as the scala media
What do you call the bottom end of the cochlea?
Basal end
What do you call the tip of the cochlea?
Apical end
What is the core of the cochlea called?
Modiolus
What are the three chambers of the cochlea?
Scala Vestibule, Scala Tympani, Scala Media
Where is the scala vestibule and what fluid is it filled with?
Chamber above the cochlea duct, filled with perilymph
Where is the scala tympani and what fluid is it filled with?
Chamber below the cochlea duct, closer to TM or ear drum, filled with perilymph
Where is the scala media and what fluid is it filled with
what we call the cochlea duct filled with endolymph
What is the charge of endolymph and why?
It has more positively charged ions because
What is the charge of perilympth and why?
It is positively charged, but less than endolymph
