Q

Freeze thaw/ Frost shattering

A
  • Water seeps into rock cracks
  • When water freezes it expands rock 9% in volume
  • Cracks enlarge and this process repeats and water freezes and thaws causing the rock to break

A
  • A common type of weathering on the coast
  • When sea water soaks into a rock, evaporation may occur

Q

Chemical Weathering

A
  • Rainwater is naturally acidic because CO2 (in air) reacts with rainwater to form carbonic acid
  • This type of acid rain is weakly acidic and reacts slowly with minerals in rock
