A

-geology= boulder clay left over from glacial till, rapidly eroding
-long fetch waves and strong prevailing winds
-material that is eroded is either dissolved or carried away by long-shore drift

Issues defending the coast

A

-can exacerbate issues further down the coast
-building and maintaining sea defences is expensive and not feasible

Specifics (on places and management)

A

-exposed chalk of Flambourgh leads to erosion features (caves, arches…)
-Withernsea and Hornsea= sea defences built as its cost effective shown by benefit analysis, example of hard engineering
-Mappleton= coastal erosion threatened main road, cost £1.9mil in 1991 using 60,000 tonnes of granite and 2 large groynes
-Spurn head= example of spit and long-shore drift
