Coastal Landscapes 8 markers Flashcards
Explain how geology and lithology alters coastal landforms (8 marks)
The geology of a coastline can alter coastal landforms as it impacts what landforms occur and how they change over time. The geology of a coastline can be whether it is discordant or concordant. This alters ho
Explain the formation of headlands and bays (8 marks)
Headlands and bays are erosional landforms which are found at discordant coastlines. Discordant coastlines are when layers of rock run perpendicular to the coast. Softer rock/clay is eroded faster then indigenous hard rock (chalk). This creates a outward facing area of land which is known as a headland and a bay where the softer rock is eroded faster. Over time at the headland it may form a cave which develops into an arch, stack and eventually stump due a weakness in the headland.
An example of a headland is at spurns head.
