Coastal deposition landforms Flashcards
1
Q
Describe the formation of a spit
A
- A spit occurs at a headland and bay
- The prevailing wind direction causes LONGSHORE DRIFT to occur, which carries sediment across the coastline.
- This changes the shape of the coastline
4.The DISTAL END (the end) of the spit is exposed to a change in the wind and wave direction, this created a RECURVED END
- The area behind the spit is protected from waves, this allows sediment to be deposited and vegetation to grow, a salt marsh is produced here.
