Thromboxane A2
Factor I name and function
“Fibrinogen”
Converted into fibrin (by thrombin), which forms the fibrin blood clot
Factor II name and function
“Prothrombin”
Is converted into thrombin, which cleaves fibrinogen
Activates Factor XIII into Factor XIIIa (crosslinks fibrin fibers)
Factor III name and function
“Tissue factor”
Exposed to Factor VII when vascular injury occurs, and activates this into Factor VIIa
Factor III/Factor VIIa/Ca2+ activates Factor X into Factor Xa
Factor IV name and function
“Ca2+”
Cofactor with most coagulation factors
Factor V function
Released by activated platelets
Converted into Factor Va by thrombin
Forms complex with Factor Xa, Ca2+, and phospholipids to form the prothrombin activator complex, which converts prothrombin into thrombin
Factor VI function
There is NO Factor VI
Factor VII function
Activated by tissue factor (into Factor VIIa)
Factor VIIa/tissue factor/Ca2+ activates Factor X into Factor Xa
Factor VIII function
Activated by thrombin (into Factor VIIIa)
Factor VIIIa/Factor IXa/Ca2+/phospholipids (tenase complex)
Tenase complex activates Factor X
Factor IX function
Activated by Factor XIa (into Factor IXa)
Part of the tenase complex (Factor VIIIa/Factor IXa/Ca2+/PL) that activates Factor X
Factor X function
Activated by the tenase complex (Factor VIIIa/Factor IXa/Ca2+/PL) into Factor Xa
Forms the prothrombin complex with Factor Va, Ca2+, and PL, which converts prothrombin into thrombin
Factor XI function
Activated by Factor VIIa into Factor XIa
Activates Factor IX
Factor XII function
Activated when exposed to collagen (into Factor XIIa)
Activates Factor XI
Factor XIII function
Activated by thrombin (into Factor XIIIa)
Crosslinks fibrin fibers to form secure fibrin clot
Which clotting factors require vitamin K?
Factors II, VII, IX, and X
