Co-ordination And Control Flashcards
Name three stimuli which affect humans.
Three of: light, sound, chemicals, touch, pain, temperature changes
Name the two main types of effector in the human body.
Glands and Muscles
What effect does oestrogen have on FSH production?
It inhibits the release of FSH
State two internal conditions that need to controlled.
Two of: water, mineral ions, temperature, sugar
How are impulses transmitted across a synapse?
By means of a chemical
What type of cell detects a change in the environment?
Receptor
Name a plant hormone.
Auxin
What is gravitropism?
Response of a root to gravity.
Why do plant shoots bend towards light?
The growth hormone auxin causes the side of the shoot away from the light to grow more so it becomes longer.
How does the contraceptive pill work?
It contains hormones which inhibit FSH so that the eggs does not mature.
Why are FSH and LH given in fertility treatment?
FSH causes the egg to mature. LH simulates ovulation (egg release).
Describe the sequence of events in a reflex action.
Stimulus — receptor — sensory neuron — relay neuron — motor neuron — effector — response.
