Co-ordination And Control Flashcards
Aqueous humour
Watery fluid that keeps the front of the eye at the right pressure. Allows light to pass through.
Vitreous humour
Jelly-like substance between lens and retina and keeps eye spherical. Allows light rays to pass through.
Conjunctiva
Thin, transparent, protective outer covering that helps prevent microorganisms from entering the eye
Cornea
Transparent front part of the eye that allows light into the eye and causes it to refract. Most refraction occurs at the cornea.
Pupil
Space in the iris through which light passes
Iris
Controls how much light enters the eye by changing its diameter
Lens
Refracts the light towards the retina (fine tuning to focus perfectly on the retina)
Retina
Contains cells that are sensitive to different intensities of light
Optic nerve
Transfer to nerve impulses from the light sensitive retinal cells to the brain, via neurones.
These neurones join at the blindspot, where there are no retina cells
