What are the key Important Safety Information surrounding Codeine and restricted use in children? (8)
A
- Must be above 12 to use due to risk of respiratory side effects
- Only use when pain cant be relieved by paracetamol and ibuprofen alone
- Max daily dose is 240mg (3 days max)
- Contra-indicated in all children who undergo removal of tonsil for treatment of obstructive sleep apnoea
5, Contra indicated in pt known with ultra-rapid metabolisers (CYP2D6) - Avoid in breastfeeding women
- Avoid in children with respiratory issues
- Be aware of signs/symptoms of morphine toxicity
