CNS Division Functions Flashcards
midterm 1
medulla
lateral reticular nuclei –> respiratory and blood pressure control, decussation of coricospical tracts (pyramids)
mesencephalon
5/6 EOM supplied, inferior colliculus (auditory), superior colliculus (visual), red nucleus (motor correction), vertical eye movement
parts of the mesencephalon
basis pedunculi: substantia nigra & crus cerebri
tegmentum: tracts, decussation of the superior cerebellar peduncle
tectum: superior & inferior colliculus
pons
motor operation of face, jaw, and EOM (abduct), motor impulses from cerebral cortex synapse and sent to cerebellum, horizontal eye movement
diencephalon
Relays sensory and motor signals to cerebral cortex and regulates the body’s systems, houses lateral geniculate nucleus
thalamus
Relay center for sensory and motor pathways
hypothalamus
regulation
epithalamus
emotional & vegetative functions
telencephalon
controls almost all voluntary movements in the body, as well as language, speech, learning, memory, and sensory processing.
contains basal ganglia, which control motor
cerebellum
receives info from periphery and cerebral cortex.
responsible for coordinating movement, balance, and posture. Also help fine-tune motor activity
corticopontine fibers
synapse on pontine and project to contralateral cerebellar hemisphere via pontocerebellar fibers
