CNS And Brain Structure Flashcards
What is the biological explanation of psychology?
-Everything was at first biological.
-Your behaviour and characteristics are caused and influenced by biological processes (hormones).
What are the two parts within the nervous system?
-Central nervous system.
-Peripheral nervous system.
What are the two parts within the peripheral nervous system?
-Autonomic nervous system (Sympathetic NS and parasympathetic NS).
-Somatic nervous system ( sensory NS and motor NS).
What is the CNS made up of?
The brain and spinal cord.
What does the CNS do?
-Controls behaviour and regulates physiological processes.
-Deals with high order skills.
-Spinal cord deals with reflex’s which don’t involve the brain.
What does the PNS do?
-Transmits millions of neurons to and from the CNS.
What is a neurone?
Pass messages through electrical impulses in the brain.
Describe the CNS (4)
-Made up of the brain and the spinal cord.
-The nerves in the body send info to the brain via the spinal cord.
-The brain processes the info and sends a message to the body via the spinal cord.
-Different areas of the brain are responsible for different functions (temporal lobe does auditory processing).
-Examples.
What does the frontal lobe do?
Problem solving, language, emotional control and decision making.
What does the parietal lobe do?
Processes sensory info and physical sensation.
What does the temporal lobe do?
Auditory processing
What does the occipital lobe do?
Visual processing
