Biological Practical Flashcards
What was the aim of the practical?
To test whether exposure to testosterone in the womb had a relationship with aggression levels.
What was the hypothesis for the practical?
There will be a correlation between 2d:4d digit ratio and aggression levels.
What was the procedure of the practical?
-measure aggression score using question age out of 12.
-measure 2d:4d digit ratio using a riler(in mm).
-analyse data using a spearman’s rank test.
What was the correlation co-efficient result? Was it significant? What does this mean?
-0.42
-not significant as is lower than the critical value so not a significant correlation between two co-variables.
What was the conclusion to the practical?
No relationship between 2d:4d digit ratio and aggression levels.
What is a strength of the practical in terms of generalisability?
Uses all genders so not representive
What is a strength in terms of reliability?
Is a standardised procedure (e.g: questionnaire) so easy to repeat and more reliable.
What is weakness in terms of generalisability?
Lots have shared characteristics(all form NE if England in college) so less representative.
-used opportunity sampling so more shared characteristics.
-ethnocentric sample as all from the UK.
What is a weakness in terms of validity?
-social desirability when answering questionnaire as aggression is a sensitive topic.
-questionnaires are subjective as a self-report method
What is a weakness in terms of ethics?
Protection for harm not kept as aggression may be uncomfortable and may cause psychological distress for participant.
